The best gift you have is a ‘thinking-mind’. You depend on thinking to exist. There is no obvious existence without thinking and without awareness of thinking. Thinking gives you a mind, a body and an environment. You exist and you are alive (present) to the level, you are in touch with gathering thoughts, their stories and views. Thinking (gathering thoughts) allows you to notice yourself. It takes you beyond your cultural tradition, nationality, religious doctrine, racial ranking, social class, and self-seeking human rights laws. Thinking creates new words for you. You marvel at each new expression. Awareness of thinking (collecting thoughts) registers your actuality. In the inner chamber of your mind: observe how you are thinking; how others are thinking and how others thought. There is immediate awareness of your values, dislikes and all that you long to accomplish. Never suppress thinking and its probing questions. It lays a foundation for research. Nothing was ever born or written without thinking (questioning, discussing and evaluating). Your development and expansion depend on your rigor in thinking (questioning). Always encourage thinking and questioning until solid thoughts, give you a field of research. My evaluation of a Breath Controlled Approach (BCA) to meditation is a product of thinking and questioning. Allegiance to a tradition and its practices is not all. How it satisfies love, life and work matters. Theories and practices of every tradition have to be challenged to increase human intelligence, safety and well-being. Unfortunately for man there is nothing else to ascertain once principles and methods of an inherited tradition are entrenched. There is pressure to please and to show loyalty to a tradition; its values and principles. As a result the underlying logic is not questioned or examined. Non-judgmental acceptance is important but, should not hinder research. Thinking is questioning (inquiring and evaluating) which answers the deepest questions. Questioning (thinking) opens the mind. It provokes thinking raising fresh insights which expose limited views. If you are quick to question a tradition, a gesture or remark. There is nothing you will not know more about. Dare to question every thought-form (belief), theory and everyone around you. You cannot obtain an answer without asking a clear-cut question. An inquiring mind is not oppressed by ignorance (unawareness). It uncovers obscurities (and secrecies) that are enclosed. Enquiring is better than raising a belief without understanding. This book is overturning the logic of returning to a meditation Support such as breath, sound or posture. Returning to a meditation Support (breath, sound or posture) is a behavior which ignores the mind. It raises a barrier between a participant and his/her own mind. Moving between a meditation Support and an object of awareness regulates awareness. Open-ended awareness is necessary to observe thinking within a preoccupation and outside a preoccupation. This nurtures a mental muscle to rise above self-absorption. Read more
